Throughout my senior year I learned many new things in my statistics and probability class. What I took away from this class is that I am better at it than other math classes I have taken before in high school. This class was a nice change from the difficulty of precalc I took as a junior. One valuable thing I learned from this class is that notes and examples are important. The class wasn’t too difficult but it helped to have my notes to go back to when needed. One thing we did this year that was difficult was the null and alternate hypothesis material. I was always pretty bad at knowing whether I needed to reject the hypothesis or not.
There were a few things we learned that may relate to life or a future career. One thing was when we learned about the placebo effect. We did a few problems that involved the placebo effect and we studied the probabilities of medications working or people just thinking that it's working. There were some things about the class that I did not expect. The chapters got a little more difficult towards the end. Overall though, the material was never too hard and I was able to manage. I always heard that stats wasn’t a very hard class. Compared to other math classes I've taken I think that it's true that it is easier. One thing I learned that I would like to learn more about is the different types of simple random samples. These are helpful for running things like surveys so it may be beneficial to know more. In these types of ways I can see how the knowledge from this class will help me in real life. The different samples we learned about are something I may need to use someday.
The difference between statistics and probability is that probability deals with predicting the likelihood of some future event whereas statistics has a focus on the frequency of events that have already occurred. A similarity between the two terms is that they both have to do with the facts of an event. If I ever take another statistics class I will treat it the same way I did with this one. I took lots of notes, studied, and asked friends for help when I needed it. By doing all of this I was able to have a successful year in statistics and probability.
